Abstract
Peppermint oil is commonly used by patients for the management of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and is even recommended in several professional society guidelines for IBS. However, studies on its efficacy have been conflicting, with multiple studies finding no benefit over placebo. We summarize the @GIJournal discussion on February 6, 2022 during which we presented the article by Nee et al. titled “Peppermint Oil Treatment for Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial.” Key findings were reviewed by our expert Dr. Daniel Keszthelyi (DK) and the session was moderated by Dr. Iris Wang (IW).
